Default need help with trunk latch

My car is a 93 2.3, and I am having a problem with the trunk latch. Both the button in the glove box and the key will unlock the hatch, but it does not pop up like it is supposed to.

If anyone knows why it's doing this or what I need to fix, I would appreciate your help.

Oh by the way, this is my first post in case it's not obvious from the forum.

thanks, George

I did not think it is supposed to pop up.
My 89 will not because the air spoiler
adds too much weight.

All it does is unlock it. You manually start to lift them, then the lift hydrilics will pick it up the rest of the way. My lift hydrolics were dead onc and lemme tell ya, that hatch is heavy.

I am sure you guys are more knowledgable than I am on this subject, but I am just not convinced that it is not supposed to pop up. The way it is now, the button in the glove box is worthless unless there's someone standing there pulling up on the hatch at the same time as I am pressing the button. I know Ford is far from perfect, but I just don't see this making any sense.

I posted on my "normal" forum, and the answer I got was that the bumpers are worn. They have to be compressed slightly when the hatch closes so that it will pop up when the latch is released.

I am interested to hear any other opinions.

well, my latch releases, but the trunk doesn't actually fly open. it sits about half an inch above "fully closed" and then i hafta lift it about 6" for the hydrolics to take over. it does sound like your little springs are worn out or something, because those are supposed to push it up enough to escape the actual latch.

vlad, would you be more specific? What "little springs" are you referring to? Where are they located? I don't find any springs on my hatchback other than the hydraulic cylinders and I am not sure these really are springs.
