Default Getting screwed over....

Called about gear installs.... FINALLY! YAHOO! I actually got off my *** and did it!

Well, I now come to find that the local performance shops (Springfield Mustangs and AA Speed and custom) are trying to screw me over!

A) They each wanted $200+ for the gears (gef racing here I come)
B) One was $340 install (not awful) the other $400
C)$790 total for the first one and $750 for the other (everything included)

I was expecting around $500 total??? WHAT GIVES!

$100 install kit, $140 gears, $300 install....

Why must you go to a performance shop?

Take your car to any local garage and ask them to do it.

Bear in mind that you get what you pay for, so don't be so quick to misjudge these guys. If you supply the gears and complete install kit with all new bearings for the differential and the axles, $350 to install all this is a decent price in my opinion. I paid $300 over 10 years ago to do this and shop labor costs have gone up like everything else in the last ten years. I would be much more concerned with their reputation as a quality shop and with any warranty they provide on the installation than just looking at the total cost. Also you want a shop that does enough gear replacements that they have all the right tools and know what the hell they're doing.

first I would like to know why your paying 200 for gears...PARKWAY FORD has them for 155.00 shipped thier good people.

if you hang around a track some you'll find guys who really know thier **** doing them for 200 or less for eatra $$$$ remeber it's not an easy job and take quite a few times to know where to strat with shim..with FMS gear the stock shim get you there or are very close.. 700.00 is just crazy as you can buy a housing with gears for that..

I agree with roundman. You could take it to a local garage but they might not have the pinion depth gauge like most places dont. If they are charging prices like that the most likely know what they are doing. You could have an old man do it for beer, but it might howl after and...well you get no waranty. I'd go someplace that knows that they are doing do it. I did mine my self. And only paid 170 for gears and 30 for the install kit. All from the ford dealership i work for. All the right tools too.
