2005 Mustang battery draw
Hello,
I have a 2005 Mustang GT that is almost 2 years old with only 6000 miles on it. For the past year or so I have had a very intermittent draw that kills the battery after sitting for 2-3 days. I had it at the dealer and they have only been able to catch the draw 1 time and it went away before they could finish the diag. The battery, radio, and smart juction box have all been replace to no avail. All accessories are turned off, and I can open the door, shut it and lock, nothing else, and the veh will die in a few days. Has anyone else had this problem? or any ideas on what might be causing it. Any feed back is appreciated. Thanks.

A two year old car with only 6000 miles is slowly killing the battery. After a start the battery requires a certain amount of recharge time to fully recharge.Letting it set only compounds the problem.
I've only bought one battery in the last ten years and that was for my wife's minivan that only drove around town to take her to work and back.It lasted seven years.(Interstate)
It could be a phantom drain but I'll bet if you keep a battery tender on it the dead battery will stop being a problem.

The vehicle can sit all winter long with no problem starting. Intermittently it will sit for 2-3 days and the battery will be completely drained. It has been at the dealer several times for the issue, and they have verified the draw leading them to the smart junction box, but the draw went away before they could finish diagnosing it. The replaced the smart junction box, which did not solve the problem.
Intermittent problems are a real pain but it sounds like your dealer is NG.
If it is the smart junction box and they have replaced it the chances ar that this NOT the problem.
How about the starter solenoid or ignition switch ?
Typically what they do is connect the amp meter to the battery and start disconnecting things at the connector level until the draw disapears. They can also try to wiggle the main harness. slam doors etc to try to get the draw to come back.
Sounds crazy but the problem may be temperature triggered, humidity, vibration, putting weight on the seat or carpet ...........
I think you have the option of bringing it to another dealer. Maybe that one will have better mechanics.
Last but not least. Is there an automobile lemon law where you live ?
