Default Coolant Sensor?

The coolant light is on in my car all the time but the coolant level is always good. I am thinking it is the coolant sensor in the overflow tank but I'm not sure. I have cleaned the entire coolant system(what a pain[:@]) even pulled the sensor out and cleaned it. It was covered in crud but it still seems to float. Must not be making contact some where. Is just buying a new sensor the best idea? Any ideas?

It is an 89 in case that helps but I think the design is the same.

Have you changed the thermostat. I think its in the upper supply hose where it attaches to the manifold if im not mistaken. See if its stuck or is malfunctioning.

FYI

There is a coolant temp sensor in your Cylinder Hear, just behind the distributor.

I do not think this is related to your problem, but just wanted to inform you.

my car doesn't have that sensor on the overflow tank...but then again, my
idiot lights dont work

well enough rambling...good luck

there is a sensor for the gauge/light on the left side of the intake towards the front, should have a wire leading to it....i'd replace that, should be cheap, and try to do it when the motor is cold...antifreeze will shoot everywhere if not...and you can check to see if the thermostat is stuck by feeling the hoses to see if they are warm and that will tell you if the water is flowing

I think it has to be in the resevoir tank. It works just like the plastic ball in the back of toilet. It floats on what ever the fluid level is. The sensor is in the cap. I cleaned it and it worked for about a day. The light is now on again and the coolant level is fine in both radiator and the overflow tank. Think I'll get a new sensor. May have to order the whole cap and floaty thing.
