Default Street/Strip Motor

I don't know alot about Motors and would really like to learn. Anyone have any ideas on the best way to learn about building racing motors for someone that works full time? Thought about taking classes or working for free at a shop that builds motors but I just don't know what is available.

In the mean time I would like to see if anyone has recomendations on how to build an insane street strip motor. I know I could go out and buy a 600HP Roush motor but I am not made of money and want the experience of putting in some of the work. The motor will be going in a 79 Fox Body.

Would also like to know where you guys buy your parts. Do you have a favorite online vendor or do you go through summit, etc?
