Default Reverse grinding.

I own a 2000gt 5spd. When I shift into reverse it grinds, anyone else have this problem? I used redline mt-90 in my previous car which worked miracles, is it ok to use it in our transmission?

I don't know about that fluid, but most manual trannies will grind a little bit into reverse, it's the nature of the gear. Have you tried pushing the clutch in and waiting a few seconds, then goin for reverse?

It's just a different style of gear and has a weak synchro on it, so it's bound go grind more than anything else will.

How reliable is the stock gt transmission? Are the syncros weak? < I had that problem with my previous car and it was a major headache.

reverse isn't synchromesh. i usually throw it in fifth before i put it in reverse which prevents grinding. putting it in any gear with synchros should work, but fifth is easiest since you can usually just go from one to the other in a fluid motion

^+1 thats what i was gonna recomend, as well as a tranny flush and fill at a ford dealer, if you drop the pan your only changing 3-4 qts vs. the 13 the tranyn holds, its about a $100 but well worth it, recommended every 50-60K miles
