Default vaccum and fuel pump problem

Hey guys. I was wondering if someone can help me with these problems. I just installed a new carb. on my 66 mustang. I set the dwell, timing and when i went to set the vaccum i can't get it higher then 15. Read some stuff about valve timing and ect. but wanted some input from here. I was wondering if maybe i had some slack in the chain and it jumped.

Also, i have a clear glass fuel filter on. Had the filter working before in that it was full, now when i look at it, it is barely full and is just dribbling in. I tried to move it in all directions and still not filling up. All brand new gas lines, tank, carb, pump and filter so i don't think there is a blockage anywhere. I had it running yesterday and it was full. Started it up today and it was full then slowly emptied out.

thanks.

I really don't see any problems in what you've stated.

Does the car run well?

at higher rpm's yes. a little hesitant at the start. I have seen before when i started the car and the gas was being forced into the filter. There was A LOT of gas being pushed in and the filter would fill up in a second. Now it only gets filled about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the way and is only dripping in from the pump side. Is there some kind of vaccum missing that should be sucking the gas through to the carb or does the pressure from the pump force the gas through the filter to the carb. I did notice that there was a little suction when i would turn the filter vertically so maybe i answered my own question.

Colorado, you don't think i could be using a wrong filter? It is just a chrome aftermarket glass filter. And my vaccum problem is that i don't get up to 18 or 20 inches of vaccum. My engine is only going up to 15 inches.

Did your motor pull more than 15 inhg before? Bigger cams don't pull as much vacuum. Depending on your cam combo 15 in may be fine. Also I've seen that fuel filter "problem" before.
It doesn't seem to matter that the filter is full. If you want to find out more tee in a fuel pressure gauge an step on it for 7-10 seconds. (On the highway). You should maintain at least 3 psi or so.

ps your ignition timing will affect your level of manif vac. You could play with it and see for yourself.
