Default c4 and c5 transmissions??

Ive got a c5 tranny that came original on my 83 3.8 and it needs a rebuild and i was wondering if a rebuild kit for a c4 would work. everything ive read says to me that it would but i'm not sure. anyone know all the differences between the c4 and the c5 (with casting numbers starting with E4 not the older C5 casting number)? Whenever i find information on these it says the c5 came in the trucks and says nothing about coming in mustangs so information is limited as was the production of this c5. Any information is helpful!!

The valve body gaskets will be different as they have different valve bodies. Otherwise they look the same, just have different torque converters. So the kit will work, but you'll need different gaskets.

No, the valve bodies are different to accomodate the lockup converter. It will work, but not for long if you know what I mean.

In all honesty, dump the c-5 and go with a built AOD, you will be a lot happier in the long run. They are not as expensive as they used to be.

true an aod might be better but i like the good ol 3 speed. i'm eventually goin to get a TCI or B&M c4 when i get the motor i'm going to build for power. after that i'm prolly goin to do a t56 conversion sometime down the road. but for now i'm just sticking with my c5 unless i run across a c4 when im not really looking. im just trying to get a car i've had since i was 16 movable again. then on with the powerplant construction.
