Specs 1985
Hey all, I am new to the forum. I am in the process of building a 1985 Mustang as a toy. I sold my 1994 earlier this month after I picked up a slightly used 2006 GT. Anyway I have been looking for the stated curb weight of the 1985 mustang but I have not been able to find it. Does anyone have access to this information. The car is currently stock and has an original 95K on the clock. I am looking forward to making this a fun toy with 350+HP with a naturally aspirated, carburated 302.
I believe the GVWR on the '85 is around 3600, which is more than a chevelle. If this is going to be a track only car, heres a few things you can do to shave some weight. (1) Get front and rear bumpers (not covers) off of a '79-82, theyre aluminum and VERY light as compared to the steel ones that are on our cars. I think they weigh 30 lbs less each(2) Get a fiberglass decklid, hood, doors (if theyre still available) (3) take out the carpet, back seat and pass seat. (4) scrap the sound deadening stuff off of the floor board (good for about 25 lbs), thatll get that fat pig slimmed down.

That sounds high (GVWR is not curb weight), the 1987 had a stated curb weight of 3256 and I believe the 1985 was lighter. The car already has a fiberglass hood (similar to the Stormin Norman hood) which is and the bumpers are not on the car right now (it is completely stripped of paint, bumbers, lights and trim. If I could find a reasonable fiberglass deck lid I would grab it in a heart beat since I had to scrap the old one.
The 86 and earlier mustangs were slightly lighter than 87-93's. not sure of those numbers though. 3200 sounds pretty close to what you are looking for. the notch backs are lighter than both the convertable and the hatchback but by the sounds of it you have a notch so your good to go in that department. along with the fiberglass parts you can get glass thats a type of plastic. i think its either plexiglass or lexan but i dont rememeber exactly. i read about it a couple years back and really havent seen it since.
