Hey all. I got a really bad sound coming from the front end of my 1995 v-6. Is it a ball joint gone bad? I mean it sounds like a bad sqeak and the seal on the ball joint is bad...is there any way to replace it without replacing the control arm?

 

dose it sound clanky?

 

Jack the front end up and use jack stands
for safety.
Have someone put their hand over the ball joint
and lightly use a board under the tire to lift
and drop the wheel while the person is feeling
for any slip movement in the ball.
If it moves, you need to replace.
Control arm stays on.
Unless you have a puller I recommend having
a local shop do the job.
$25 joint $35-$50 labor

 

The noise is aweful. It sounds like creaking/cracking/clanking all at once...hard to describe here without having someone hear it...

 

Where is the best place to buy the joint?
