Oil Pressure Help
So my dad bought a 94 vert a while ago and it has 72k on the clock, nice ride. Yesterday we drove out to my grandpa's farm and the oil pressure was just fine, but on the way home the guage went a little bit below the N in NORMAL from the R that it usually is at. It has stayed there ever since when we start the car up. Oil level is just fine, I'm wondering what the problem is if any, bad relays or oil pump or what? What would cause a drop if oil isn't leaking and car is bone stock.

RE: Oil Pressure Help
happened right after we changed the oil and filter. Non synthetic to keep the leaking down to a minimum if there is any on the horizon but im thinking maybe a bad filter.

RE: Oil Pressure Help
could certainly be from the synthetic oil, but if synthetic caused oil pressure to drop then its really not the problem - just a symptom.
Before getting worried, get a cheap oil pressure gauge from a parts store and check the oil pressure (get one that will tell you how much pressure is being made, not if its "normal" or not. If it in facts reads low, then likely you've got an oil pump problem (if one is near failure an oil change can certainly push it over the edge). Worst case scenario you're engine bearings are worn, you can band-aid the problem with higher viscosity oil (like 10w40 or even 20w50 as a last resort).
Good luck with your problem, all I can really advise is if your running less than 10# of pressure at idle I wouldn't drive it. As long as your running at least 10# your ok, but 20# is better. Anything below 5# oil pressure will likely mean big time engine damage.

RE: Oil Pressure Help
thanks.
A factor that deters me from thinking that it's a major problem (aside from my wallet) is that the engine runs as cool as before even when the car is driven 30+ miles a day. Never gets hot, and the car has only 72k on the clock. Any other possible diagnosis? Is the mechanical oil guage hard to hook up?
