Default C-4 trans pan question

Well i just wrote a beautiful topic but it just got erased. so heres the short version. I have a 69 coupe with a C-4 3-speed. While I was taking the trans pan off the change a leaking gasket, a spring and a metal "cap" fell out. I didnt see which came out first so when I put it back together i put the spring in first and the metal cap sits between the spring and the pan. Is this backwards? should i have put the cap in first so the spring sits on the pan?.

The problem is it's shifting out the first and second gear very quickly.

Thanks for you help and I'm sorry you did get the other version.

Cap first, then spring. The filter is what holds it in the valve body. This image is backwards but I believe this is what your talking about.

Yes, I believe those are the parts; they're the only ones that goes in vertically, but it does look backwards. I figured that has to be the problem. I don't know why the would put that metal cap between the spring and the pan. It must be part of the valve housing.. I'll switch it and try that. Thank you for the reply.

First, a correction. the spring and the "cap" were located between the filter plate and the rest of the value body, not the pan. I took the pan off not finding the spring. I then saw the spring underneath the filter plate and took that off, too. LSS I switched the cap and the spring and all is well again. Thanks for the help and I'll be seeing you ine th future.
