OE Wheels off Ebay.....whats the verdict?
So i've done a bunch of searching, but I have yet to find a solid answer about "OE" wheels. I know one person was having a problem with the finish turning copper, but I was wondering if there are any more stories to report of. They have decent feedback, but thats just saying they got their wheels and they fit. Its not like you can go back after two months and leave feedback saying that they tarnished and the chrome chipped off.
Usually when something is too good of a deal, it is and i'll just end up at mustangtuning. Just wanted to get your thoughts.
Lastly, I was going to go with 17x9 in the front and 10.5 in the back. The question is, should I go to an 18 inch wheel if I can afford it?
I won't be able to lower the car for a while after a wheel and tire purchase, so I guess my inquiry is if the 18's will fill out the fender A LOT nicer than the 17s?
Will it be that noticable?
Thanks a lot guys.

When wheels "turn copper" it must be because the chrome plating is wearing off and exposing the copper underplating. The way I hear it is the platers use copper to plate the wheel first. Then nickel is used and chromium is used last.A thinner than normal layer of chrome and no nickel could be the reason.
Go to Tire Rack and check the tire diameter for the tires you want to use 18 inch rims with.If the diameter is the same it will make very little difference about filling the fenderwells.Larger diameter tire sizes will also throw off the speedometer by some amount, making it read slower than the actual speed.

Thats some good info. So the thinner layer of chrome and such allows for the cheap prices. Bottom line as usual is you get what you pay for I guess......
So even with a bigger diameter rim, your saying that the profile of the tire is probably smaller, thus making no difference in wheelwell gap?

Visit the Tire Rack website for all the info on tires you can stand.

For the tires filling the wheel well you have to look at it like this if your rim is a 17 and the sidewall of the tire is 3 inches then you have a total of 20 inches under the well. If you go with an 18 and you get a tire with a sidewall of 2 inches then you still have twenty inches. I worked in the tire business for a couple of years and I do know this. The bigger the tire the more it costs, the lower the profile (or sidewall) the more it costs and when your talking about car tires as opposed to trucks they usually go hand in hand meaning that if you buy a 295/55/17 then in an 18 it would probably a 295/45/18. I also know that 315/35/17 is the biggest tire you can cram under a cobra and some require spacers, but the point is that 315 is expensive. This is in reply to the originator not in reply to chopper

Not to stray too far off topic.....but i'm looking at 17X10.5 in the rear. Can I fit the 315/35/17 on my GT or probably not? Whats the next smallest width that you know of, if you don't mind me asking?

ok bottom line is.....it really doesn't matter what brand of wheel you buy. As long as you take good care of them, don't use brushes, keep them polished every so often, and absolutely DO NOT use a wheel cleaner that has any kind of acid or harsh chemical in it, they will last. Keep them clean and don't do any damage to the coating and they will be fine. Its all about how you take care of them.
