Default Speedo went wacky

Earlier tonight I was pulling out of work and my speedo was going wacky. If I was going about 30, it would be jumping all round 30. It happened after I gased it a bit. It eventually stopped about 1-2 miles down the road. What could have caused this? What would this mean?

Thanks for any answers.

I believe you have a mechanical speedo. Sounds like the cable needs cleaned/lubed.

Some auto parts places sell a graphite speedo
lube kit. You have to unscrew the cable and
squeeze tube of lube down the cable.
At the same time a lube can be applied
intowards the speedometer.

2000 has an electrical speedo, just like my 99, it is more than likely sensor related, how many miles are on the car?

Barely any... only 12,500 miles are on the car. It only does it every once in a while.

Hunt around there was a reset trick using the tripreset button and a key sequence, also pull the speedo sensor from the tailshaft housing of the tranny, its only one bolt and slips right out, check for any signs of cracking on the body of the sensor, i have seen them go in as short as 5k.
