my wife has a 87 coupe, when its cold it sputters and backfires every once in a while, then when it warms it wants to load up,runs rich, when it acts up you can turn off the ignition and start it right back up and it stops for a while....can anyone tell me what that is

could be a o2 sensor do you have engine light on? I will take a look at youre fuel filter / fuel pump pressure test too.

Good Luck

you might also want to clean the throttle body and IAC with carb cleaner. best to pull the TB off the intake to clean it really good, especially on the back side where the carbon deposits from the EGR can collect. you can get a gasket set for the TB from most good auto parts stores.

no the engine light is not coming on...yeah im gonna check it today..the only thing that puzzles me is when it acts up i can turn the car off and restart and its fine or if i just run the crap out of it then it clears for a short time...when the car warms up it's not anywhere nears as bad as when its cold....ive had this same problem with speed density several times.....[:@]

How many miles does it have on it? Could it be the timing? It did it to me once.

around a 101000 miles, alot of people are saying that but it is really bad when its cold and does it often then when it warms its not as bad still does it but not as often like its flooding or running out of gas and it will backfire at times but if i floor it it will pick up and clear out also when it does this its really rich [:@][:@]
