Default Stripped Bolt - Wont budge

This question is not so much regarding my mustang but I figure the people on this forum would know best.

I have been working on my daily driver car and am replacing the water pump. I got to the last bolt holding it in. It was one of the first ones I tried but moved on since I could not get it out. Now it is stuck, stripped and not really budging at all. It is a 10mm size bolt with a shaft of about 15-20mm. I first tried the socket but that rounded off the endges, then I went to a fixed wrench, that did the same thing. I talked to a few people and they suggested a locking wrench. Did that and now it is all chewed up and the vice wrench does not even stay on the bolt head.

I tried taking a torch to it and heating it up. No luck, just gained another deep cut on my fingers when the wrench slid of the bolt and I used the engine block as a punching bag.

I have considered grabbing hold of the water pump and trying to use that to help get the bolt free.

Anyway, any thoughts would be great, because after this is done and I can drive it then I can start working so I can pay for the mustang rebuild.

If it's the last bolt holding the water pump on, just bust the head off it & slip the water pump off. Then when you can see the shaft of the bolt you'll have more leverage. Soak it with penetrating oil and/or heat it with a torch & GENTLY rock the bolt till it comes out of the block

Um idk how tight it is but maybe you can use a cut off wheel and cut a notch similar to that of a slotted screwdriver. Then if you have a high powered screw driver or somethin just use that **** with a slotted bit and screw that biotch out.

1). Grind off the head of the bolt and take the pump off, then use vice grips to remove the body of the bolt

2). Weld a spare wrench on to it

3). Fill Socket with JBWeld and put it over the bolt, let it dry overnight and viola

Good Luck,

E.

+1, even if you dont have a cutting wheel a hacksaw will work fine as long as you can get it in there. just cut a nice slit in it that you can get a screwdrive of some sort into.

its been said again and again here but just put some penetrater on it let it sit for a while and try some vice grips making sure you really dig into the bolt. It that doesnt work just cut the head of the both off. hack saw or dremel or whatever then just slide the pump off and grab it with the vice grips.
