Would it be better for me to switch my tranny to a manualor leave it an automaticif i am going to do the usual upgrades ie: cold air intake fuel injectors and so on

You can soup up an auto to outrun a stick. Depending on the year, it'd be easier to trade yours in on a manual that to attempt the conversion.
