Default 351 Windsor heads

I have a 302short block ready for heads. I have a set of 351 Windsor heads that I am told will fit, and are better than the 302 heads are.Can anyone tell me if this information is correct? What makes the 351 heads better, if in fact they are?Thanx

Yes 351 W heads will fit on a 302. They're better because they flow more air. However I'm not sure if installing them STOCK would reduce your compression ratio bit. Nothing that couldn't be solved by shaving them down a bit though.

351W heads will fit on a 302 provided you have the proper bushings in the bolt holes, or redrill/tap the head bolt holes in the 302 block. The 351 uses larger bolts.

Also, most years of 351's used the same heads as the 302. Best to check the valve size to see if they are indeed a little better. 1.78" intake valveis standard on a 302 and most 351's. Earlier 351's had a 1.84" intake valve.

'69, '70, and '71 351W headswill have thelarger valves. Mustangs Unlimited carry the shims that allow you to put the 351 heads on a 302.
