Whenever I open my door my car gives the loudest clunking noise of metal on metal.

When I purchased my car (1997) two years ago, I had noticed the dealership I got it from put a fair amount of white/yellowish type lubricant or grease all over the hinges inside where the door connects with the body.

Does anyone know the best method of applying this grease (I cant think of what to use....a ruler maybe?? i dont know), and also what would the type of grease be called? Hinge grease? I'm assuming I can pick some up at a local hardware store or Canadian Tire

Check the clearence between the door and fender, It may be rubbing there... I've always found WD40 works good on the hinges but you have to give it a squirt every couple of months...

 

yea that happend to me too, its problly the fender, just pull up on it a little

 

I had this problem when I got my '98 on the driver's door. it squeaked real loud and made a clunking noise I squirted some WD40 in there and the squeaking went away. and never came back. the clunking noise kinda stayed there for a while and went away. I dunno if it was the 40 or what but it's not there anymore. try the 40 out.

 

You could use some bearing grease
on the door hinge mechanism. Also
lithium grease.
