Default Alternator?

Hey guys,

I was driving home from work again today and came to a stop at a light...when I looked down at my gauges and my battery and oil pressure gauge quickly went to zero and then back to about half way where they usually are. If you weren't watching them you wouldn't have caught it. I have caught this happen many times. I have no problem starting the car at all and havn't yet. It is only those 2 gauges that do it...Never the speedometer or tachometer. I have never had the radio or fans cut out on me while driving either. Could this be related to an alternator that might be acting up or could it be something else?

BTW, the car is a 2000 Mustang GT, Manual.

Thanks guys,

Derek

Sounds like a bad connection behind the dash. You could pull it out and check the cleanliness of the connections and make sure everything is tightened correctly.

Start the car and put a volt meter on the battery. It should be at around 14volts at LOW idle. Have someone rev the car up to 2k rpm, the voltage should be around 14v, if there is more than a 1v difference betweenLOW idle and 2k, then you need to replace the alternator.

13.8 to 14.5 is acceptable from Idle to 2000 rpm
