350 Swap

350 Swap
My buddy just had a 350 swapped into his truck. It originally had a 350 in it, but it was blown. We picked it up tonight and he followed me home. The guy said that it was a little low on oil because he didn't have any to throw in. We were planning on coming to my house and putting oil in.
He said that when he left the guys house that it started ticking like it was lifters, and by the time we got to my house it was knocking like a ****er. We added a quart and a half and it had plenty of oil so it wasn't TOO low, it still knocked bad.
We drove to his house and it seemed like it stopped for a little bit but it might just be because the exhaust is loud and we couldn't hear it.
Is there any saving for this motor? Will it come back into it, or is the damage done?

RE: 350 Swap
Does the knock sound like its coming from the top or bottom of the motor? If its a lifter you can just remove the valve covers andretighten them and all should be ok. Ive had rocker arms work loose like that and would make god awful knocking sounds.
If the sound is coming from the bottom of the motor you most likely have a rod or main knock. The only way to fix that is to pull the motor and have the crank turned.
How was the oil pressure when all this was going on? It doesnt sound like it was low enough on oil to spin a main or rod bearing. If the motor was new and just installed, I would go talk to the person that did the work because it sounds like something wasnt done right from the shop.
