Default Forged Internals ?'s

Hello everyone.... I am a fellow Ford owner.. I currently have a 94 Probe GT... I live in the Bay Area, California and I'm looking for some info...

You guys all know that you probably have the largest aftermarket in the world, next to the Chevy 350... Well, the Probe does not... Hah, not even close. But, its getting bigger...

Anyway, I'm looking start building an engine for boost and need some advice on who's who in the forged internals world.. Our block is pretty stout from the factory. Instead of a 4 bolt or 2 bolt main, it is a 2 piece block, housing the crank in between the sub block (bottom 2-3") and the main portion, with the cylinders. It is an aluminum block. The crank is a factory forged steel unit, and very heady duty. So, no worries there. The rods are also factory forged, but they're pretty wimpy. And we get cast pistons.. I'm looking to do a set of aftermarket rods and pistons, as well as rings and pins... So, I've come to you guys to find out who is good and who isn't. Everything will need to be custom made, which is ok, but I need to know which companies are better...

Right now there is a freelance Probe performance company making engine build kits... $1300 gets you 8.7:1 forged Wiseco pistons (down from 9.2:1.... set up for boost) and Scat forged connecting rods..

I have heard good things about the kit, but are these companies good? Also, what is the major enhancement of free floating wrist pins versus pressed in?

Obviously, I'll be doing ARP hardware throughout...

Soo, please post what companies are better than others, and if the kit above sounds good... Thanks!

Both companies are good one as far as I know, I've read lots about Scat and their cranks in MM&FF magazine and they have never said anything bad about them.
have you tried looking at the Ford Racing Performance parts catalog at www.fordracing.com/performanceparts ?? I don't know if they make high performance parts for the Probe but it couldn't hurt to look and see. You can also call them at 586-468-1356 to get advice where to go for Probe parts I suppose.
free floating wrist pins allow the piston/rod to move about easier in the cylinder in the event there is some slight misalignment of the cylinder bore to the crank centerline. this reduces internal frictional losses and piston skirt scrubbing on the cylinder walls.

thanks for the input! I've been working with the Probe for about five years now, so I know pretty much who does and doesn't make stuff, but in terms of getting custom internals, I want to go to the right place. Sadly, when dealing with the Probe, Ford Racing is the last place to go. Not only has Ford bastardized a great car, but they don't know anything about the powerplant anyway... Its actually built by Mazda... Sooo, I usually don't bother... But it would be nice if they would start offering stuff...

One of the major power adder setups on the Probe GT is the supercharger from the Thunderbird SC... Eaton M90... Also, turbo kits are starting to develop and well, you can always put the bottle on anything. I ran a 14.5 @ 97.6 with a 50 shot in my car.. Now I'm looking to build the engine and boost it...

Sooo, anyone else?

thanks for the input guys. Sounds like I'm safe with this combo..

As for the Probe, yes, its a great looking car when not riced out.. mine is all stock looking, just lowered with a set of rims. No neons, stickers or bodykit here....
