Default i think my rack is rocked

hello everyone. im new to this so excuse my ignorance. i just bought a 94 5.0 HO 5 speed convertable and the only problem it seems to have other than not making 5000hp from the factory is a little bit of play in teh stearing wheel. what im wondering here is this.... should i try other suspension parts before replacing the rack, and if i replace the rack is there a better than stock rack to use....?

I would just jack the front end up on stands, get a friend to turn the wheel, while you are near the tie rods or suspension conponets, Check for any play in any of those areas.

Good Luck.

First I would check the bushings in the stearing shaft and rack. My buddy put some long tubes on his car and roasted his bushings, now his has some really annoying play in the wheel. So if those bushings did wear out its an easy fix. If you determine that it is the rack, throw some money on the table and get a flaming river r&p. That with some suspension, bump steer kit, and some x2 ball joints would make that car handle like a dream.
