Default a/c

i need to take the a/c pump out to change my heads. i was wondering what is in those two lines that come out of the pump. are they just compressed air or are the freeon (or whatever makes it cold)? can i just undo the clamps and pull the hoses? will i need an a/c shop to recharge my system if i take them off?
thanks

If you pull em your gonna need to recharge your system - Im sure you can just unbolt everything with the lines still attatched and just swing it off to the side.

If you just pull them make sure you take it some where and have them clean the evacuate the system totally and then recharge it. Make damn sure you plug the hoses also because and moisture or trash gets in that system you are screwed. Im licesned on High and Very high pressure systems and had to take all the classes and have my license. If your car is old and still running R12 then you will need to take it to a shop to have it recharged because you cant just buy R12 without a license. If you are running R134A then you can go to Autozone or a place as such and get a can of recharging. If you pull the hoses and immediatly tap them off air tight then you can do the work yourself if its 134A.
