Default rubbing

the front tires on my '86 LX are slightly rubbing the inner fenders. it is a non V8 car, and the previous owner put GT phone dial wheels on it. Is the front spindles different on an LX to cause the rubbing with the '15s on them? or should I try running a different tire. I cannot remember the size on it now, but they are Goodyear eagles and look to be a correct size for the rim.

Are phone dial wheels you are refering to what we call 10 holes? First time I heard that.

No a rant but seriously. Wouldn't checking the front tire size be a good place to start with this problem?

yeah, they are the 10 holes. They are standard 15x7 rims

I know that the tire size is a good thing to know, but I'm in college far from my stang, which ishome...(some electrical problems have grounded the car for now) and I just recalled the minor problem recently...

I'm trying to remember but I think they are 225/?? R15 tires.

I cannot remember what the width is [:@]

They should fit fine with a 15x7 tire on the front regardless if it is a GT or LX. You might need to get spacers for the fronts to push out the tire/rim and prevent rubbing. I mean if it was a 17 or 18 inch rim than I have heard of getting the fenders rolled to accommadate a larger tire/rim combo and prevent rubbing. Hope it helps with the limited info from you. By the way focus on college and we will be here when you get back and give some more info. Later J

225 15 is the correct 15" size. It calls for a 60 series.

Does it only rub when turning?

If they are eagles, it's probably a 60 series. Eagles are a performance line.

thanks mygt500, last semester I got a 3.25 GPA, I'm hoping to get on the deans list after this semester.

I called the parents and they checked the said they saw a 60 on the tire, but they dont know much else.(their cars have the tire issues handled by the service shop.) I do know for afact that I'm running Goodyear Eagles on that car ( I wished that it would have had some BFGson instead)and that they have 80% of their tread left. (previous owner had got new tires put on the car 6 months before he decided to sell it.) their are rub marks on the plastic inner fender well, though wehn I turned the wheel full chock, I didnt hear any rubbing noises. it only seems to have occured when turning, if it even happens anymore.

I'mbeggining to think maybe someone had wrong size tires on before, because if these tires are correct then there should be no rubbing. I know it is definetly not the alignment, the car drives straighter than an arrow. you canlift your hands off the wheel and the car will stayperfectly straight.

I had my dad drive it around the block yesterday, and he said he didnt hear a thing. I havent driven the car much (other than around the community I live in) sinceI did the front brakes over the winter break. I remember that the rubbing occured before I redid them, (new pads, rotors and bearings) so maybe it was just caused by worn bearings or something. I'm recalling what I did to, and the camber looked fine after we did the brake overhaul.

I'm just beginning to think that it was just due to the worn out brake assemblies. I mean, if foxes can fit '17s then 15's should be no problem...
