I have bought a 88 Mustang 5.0 they guy that i bought it off sed that the trans. motor, and rear was rebuilt n there was a new clutch put in it everything runs good he sed there was 373 gears in the rear and then he put a hurst short throw shifter in my question is i have problems sometimes goin in to fourthupshifting or downshiftingnot all time jus here n there but wen i down shift i have problems gettin it in to second gear it wont let me in it it seems till im below 15 mph i also noticed the wen i go to put it in reverse that sometimes it don wanna go in its like the tranny is still spiinin someone sed about puttin it in fifth then goin to reverse so i did... what could be the problem thanks

 

Not Sure exactly, but I'll give you a couple of ideas to check into. First, you could have a synchro, or mutiple synchros going out.. Second.. Short throws (to my knowledge) have bump stops for each gear, and if any of those are not adjusted correctly, you will have trouble getting it into gears.. Hope this helps!! Enjoy your stang.. pretty much everyone i know with this car cant get into reverse without putting it in 5th first or putting it in reverse before you turn the car on. mine is the same way in that sometimes its hard to get into gear. i think it is a synchro problem. i really don't think its a problem with the shifter because my tranny acted this way before i put my steeda tri ax in.
