power windows stuck
I am new to this site and have recently purchased a 1998 mustang GT convert. I think I purchased a lemon. First, the rear power windows seem to be stuck down and will not roll up, the drivers side rear was intermittent before, and is currently stuck also. I also have a water leak from the back glass (i think), and water is collecting in that poucharea behind the rear seat. Maybe the water leak caused it.
How do I get the rear windows up or fixed, diagnosed. I tried using the search option on this sitefor infoand no -luck. Thanks. E

A quick diagnoisis for power windows is to watch the volt gauge or dash lights.
Does the needle or lights dim when you engage the switch?
If so, it's most likelya bad window motor or it's physically stuck.
No needle movement or change in the lights, Most likely an open circuit somewhere. Now it's time to whip out the DMM or test light and check for power. At the motor plug, door jam wiring etc.
You purchased a 9 year oldloaded convertible performance car. How is a water leak and a failing power window classify it as a lemon?

Is this a common problem with mustangs convertibles from years 95-98? Before I purchased this one I checked out a few other mustang converts and there was one that had the same problem ( rear windows stuck down). I figured it was that particular car , in a one case scenario, but now I am wondering if its a common occurence with converts.
Thanks for the info I am going to try using the Dmm on some wires. The rear window motor looks like a pita to get out if I have to replace it.
Well I guess I called it a lemon because
1.Rear-end is making noise -possible carrier bearing (I thought tires)...quoted $650
2. Really, really spongey brakes (bled twice; 1x shop, 1x me) even replaced all pads. Did not fix problem.
3. Top looks new , the vinyl on edges of topcracked off after third time I lowered it, but leaks somewhere from rear -Bad! (needs replacing somehow). starting to stink inside.
4. found out the atx bands need tightening ( or slipping)- not bad to me, shop suggested it.
5. Rear windows went down , and never came back up. ( one before the other).
6. The factorysecurity system (alarm) is possesed, it will go off 20 minutes after armed, and then most of the time in the early AM. pissed off neighbors. I pulled fuse.
Engine seems solid though, nice rumble of exhaust, no oil leaks, or smoking. These are only moderate issues. The guy I bought it from said it needs nothing other than a new steering wheel cover. LoL he was a lawyer, said he was old school and never put the top down nor armed the alarm when questioned later about the issues.
#3,5,6 all happened in the 2nd week of owning it. Can you say Sucker!
Well thats enough of whining, I had to vent to someone, I 'll probally look into selling it in spring, after owning it for 2 months. Last guy only owned it for less than 6 mos. and never drove it. I wonder why?

power windows are a pretty easy fix though on convertibles the back window gearbox is a little different at least on the older models anyhow they are easy to check with a volt meter or test light if you have power to the motor you should be able to hear it run if the motor is good if no power check switch if it has power and the motor is not turning motor is bad if the motor sounds like it is running geargox may be bad
