sound like a old chevy problem. Ok, have you checked the plugs? if there oilly after seating a few days the engine is leaking oil in the cyls. Physics is the engine cools and contracts so do your seals and piston rings. oil enters the chambers and fouls the firing until it burn out. long it seats more blue smoke it will produce but more likely on the back pistons first working up to number 1 and 4. I would go down to Wal-Mart and buy the 1000 cold crank amp battery and forget about the fact the engine is getting older.

what motor do you have in it?
I would be leaning towrds a leaking inejctor. I would run a fuel pressure test and see what you come up with. Thats one classic rough start problem. Also look for a stuck EGR or bad IAC as well as a dirty throttle body..
