Default 1986 Mustang GT Running Hot

When I first got the car it did not have the heater control.

It ran pretty cool, but after I put the heater control in, it seemed to run hotter.

The radiator hoses are soft and you can see the antifreeze circulating, but for some strange reason, it runs hotter when you put the heat on.

I don't know if the heater core could be causing some kind of restriction, but it just seems strange.

When you put the heat on it's coldest, you can feel cool air; but if you put it to it's hottest setting, you get no airflow and/or hot air.

Any thoughts?

man i have to say this is scary cause the exact same thing happened to me, and is happening ot my 86 gt
i have to turn the heat off so it dont overheat
its sad andi cant figure it out. it aint he water pump or the radiator the coolant and water are flowing well the only thing left is the core. i dont think its that though, im hopin that its just the stat, but i replaced that so im truly stumped?

A restriction in the heater core would act as if
the valve was set to cool. So there should be
no difference in the heat of the motor.
I don't understand how you can see the
prestone flowing through the hoses. Do
you have tygon clear hoses? If you do they
will get soft and close off to the flow of
prestone.
Could also be the gauge.
