Hi everyone.. hey im pretty new with modifying stangs.. I have a buddy who has one and wants me to help him build it up. Well we just ordered his exhaust system and gears. I have no problame with doing the exhaust but im not to sure on the gears. My mechanical abilities are very good ive done turbo installs, motor swaps, ect ect.

Does anyone happen to know of some sites installing a set of gears in the 8.8? I went with richmond 4.10's and there basic install kit. Its going to be a basic install so the less work would be the better. I found some sites but it seemed like there were doing the full overhaul. I was going to also see if my local library might have anything on mustangs repair or mods. Thanks for the help

 

You sure you want to get into this?
It's best you have a shop do it if you've never done a gear swap before...

You do something slightly wrong and somethings going to break

 

I agree with OB. I've done gear swaps and it's a bish. The last one I did, it was loud and then I ate up the teeth on it. Ever since then I take it to a pro. Not just an auto repair shop, but someone who knows gears, like a tranny shop.

 

I agree, take it to a competant mechanic. I have done one set of gears and it kinda sucked. There are alot of things to pay close attention to. Also there are a few guages that would help imensely that not "everyone" has.

 

well i went and talked to my old shop teacher.. he explained how to do it and had the tools i need. anyone have a link to a website with photo install

 

check out www.musclemustangsfastfords.com or www.50mustang.com for technical articles that might show what you need to find. or go buy a shop manual at the local auto parts store for more details. just be prepared to pull the pinion and differential out several times as you adjust the shims to get the wear pattern and gear backlash set correctly.
