Default Gas smell

So I filled the tank and apparently over-filled it, only had the car for probably 800 miles or so...so there was gas coming out of the bottom of the car, smelled...drove it 110 miles, got to 1/4 tank, sounds like it's going through too much gas, my motorcycle gets 130 out of 3.5 gallons, 110 for 11 gallons in the Mustang, I think there's a leak, thoughts? I can smell it inside the car as well, granted it's a vert but still...

Thoughts?

First clean the bottom side of the car to make sure it's clean. Then fill it properly and check again. If you are getting 10MPG, then chances are you are just running really rich and not necessarily leaking gas. Running rich would give you that gas smell and would cause bad mileage. But if you do think it'sa leak, check your injectors, rails, lines, etc.

You might also try parking on a clean concrete surface
and run the car. you might spot where the leak is
coming from. Not sure of the age of your car, but my
89 GT was leaking from the return line of the gas
line in back of the front wheel. Took me a week to
find the pinhole.

Another place to check is the rubber gromit that goes into the gas tank from the filler neck, those things go bad in about 5 years and start dumping fuel in just 7. I have had 2 SN-95's that had the same problem. Its a part that is less than $30 bux at Kregan or Autozone but it is a royal bitch to puton.

That is another area to check, but you should track down the whole fuel system, if you saw a spot then investigate it well.

Yeah, the rubber donut that holds the filler tube in the tank has a tendency to split as they age, causing to leak from the tank when you fill it. Thats what happened on my `00GT. They had to drop the tank to install a new one.
