Default New 67' mustang suggestions

I just picked up a little stang, 67' coupe, blue, mostly original. Anyways it has a 289, 2V, 2 barrel holley carb(unsure of the cfm). It has a C4 trans. It also apparently has a 3.90 gear in back. Other than that the only addition is the switch from leaded to unleaded fuel.

I'm looking to make it faster but not a drag car. What are the next mods that I could do to give me the best bang for my buck? I'm thinking of replacing the 2bbl with a 4bbl 600 holley carb and intake. It could use some headers too I'm sure.

Not sure but sounds like a C-code.

There is tons of stuff you can do to this car to make it a great daily driver. You might want to get a MSD ignition and digital disrtibutor.(way better than the stock points distributor). Then get an Edelbrock performerintake and carb (600 cfm). You could also do the cams but that is not really needed to make it quik. Then you can get some Hooker headersinto a magna-flow complete exhaust for a good price. Also get a disc brake kit from Stainless Steel Brakes. Promise the brakes will be you favorite mod.

I bought a 66 coupe 5 years ago with only 78k miles on it. It was completely stock with the 2v carb. So I did everything stated above plus some cams and transmission stuff. All in all I spent about 2.5k on it. But the brake kit costs about a grand to do. it is pretty quik. Very Torky. It was fun doing all the work on it too.

Get a Summitt magazine (go tothere website, they will send one for free)Everythingyou needis in there.

Its just my opinion but Edelbrock carbs work better on these cars right out of the box.

And yes the best bang for you buck will be the aluminum intake and carb.

Thanks for the replies. What I bought was: Weiand Dual plane Stealth intake : A Barry grant Speed demon 575 vacuum secondaries : and Hooker headers with 3" collectors to an X pipe.

I don't want to change the cam or heads.....and I already have disc brakes on the front.... what else can I do for around 300 bucks? Shift Kit? Yea I believe it's a C code.

I imagine the motor was around 200 hp , now with the 4bbl carb with intake, and headers, Perhaps its at around 240 hp? I'd like to be around 280 hp or better..

Have you consodered doing the ignition? It really helps to get rid of the stock points style distributor. I think you can do it for around that price. It will makea big difference too, when you get it tuned properly. While your at it get some Ford Racing spark plug wires and some hotter spark plugs.

A B&M shift kit will make a huge change and a good TCI stall converter too, try about 2500 stall.

You might want to put Royal Purple fluids throughout also.

Just be patient and keep doing a little at a time.

Was the Demon carb pricey? I' ve seen the stealth series of intakes but you are the first person I heard of to get one. Are you running any mufflers or just straight pipes? Man don't that 289 sound awesome!

I ran straight headers for a little while when I first put mine on. Man it was great.

The Speed Demon carb was $419.00 which I think is a good price.

I'll probably use some mufflers because I live in the city. Then again, it cant be louder than a harley. Yea I'm using hooker headers with 3" collectors and 2 1/4" straight pipes. That 289 should sound great. They have their own sound, I'm likin it.

I think I will invest in a torque converter. Since I live in the city, it's stop light to stop light anyways.
