shaking at shift points
I have a '95 mustang 3.8 auto w/127k miles. The car shakes through the shift point around 30-35mph only while traveling up inclines (does not matter slight or steep) but only while "driving slow" (what i would consider slow normal acceleration). If i drive "fast" (ie heavy acceleration) it does not. this does this sometimes around 40-45mph as well. It seems to coorespond with the shift points. this only occurs going up inclines, not level roads or declines. Ideas? This is the wifes old car, it's not driven much. I am planning on replacing the timing chain as neither she nor her father remember ever doing it. I know it's past due. Could this be the culprit? anything else I should be considering. We had the transmission flushed and filled w/new filter about 3 months ago. We also had it inspected around the same time and found no issues.

don't sound like a timing chain problem to me. first make sure the tranny fluid level is correct when hot as if the level is too low, it could be running away from the pump pickup in the pan on inclines leading to low hydraulic pressures in the tranny. check the TV cable connection at the throttle linkage to make sure the cable is properly attached and working. as you apply the throttle, this cable increases the pressure in the tranny and if it ain't working right, will cause shifting problems. if the level is correct and the TV cable appears to be working, I would get the tranny checked and have the bands adjusted as it sounds like they are worn and slipping when it tries to shift under a load (up inclines).
