autolite 4100
I plan on installing a Weiand Stealth manifold on my 289 with an Autolite 4100. Does anyone know if there are any particular models of t he 4100 that WON'T work with this setup? It has to have the A/T kickdown also.
Hey L8ER....welcome. I would go with a Holley or Demon with that Weiand Stealth intake.
It doesn't seem that you're trying to keep it factory correct, so you'd be alot happier with the Holley.
Myself, I'd go with a dual feed double pumper...even with the auto tranny. Vacuum secondary Holleys are too "lazy" for performance, but help with fuel mileage a little better.
Generally, a double pumper is better suited for stick shift car, but still performs with an auto tranny better than a VS will.
A Barry Grant Speed Demon is better yet than a Holley, but the same design, just more refined. A heavy price tag of $399.00 though for the Demon.
You'd want a 650 cfm also, a 600 cfm will be fine for a mostly stock, unmodified engine, but if you get a 650 cfm, it'll be good for future mods like heads, cam change, porting, or free flowing exhaust.
I wouldn't go with the Autolite 4100 unless that's something you already have to use for free.
Oh, and stay away from Edelbrock or Carter AVS carbs...they're junk for performance. Not as easy to tune as they imply, and your engine will cough and hiccup like a freakin' Chevy on drugs...I know, I had a 750 cfm Edelbrock on my 306 and never could get rid of the stumbles and hiccups...with "2" different tuning kits! Hell, I bought my Holley 650 double pumper off of Ebay for $125, cleaned it good, threw in a rebuild kit, and WOOOOOHOOOOO!! Now the world is right!
Stick with a proven performance carb...Holley.

Thanks, I really wasn't worried about authenticity, you're right, I just hear the 4100 was a very well made and easy to tune carb. I will check out the Holley, as finding a good 4100 for a good price seems to be difficult.
