Default Wheel Weights

OK - Here's an odd one. I recently had the bullitt replica wheels from Tire Rack mounted/balanced by one of their recommended installers and I am on my 4th trip back because the wheel weights will not stay on the wheels more than a couple of days. I am seriously considering using some sort of adhesive. Anyone else ever see this and any suggestions? Thanks

Are they the "stick on" type of wheel weight the shop is using?

Yep - stick-on weights.

Never had a problem, and I must balance 50 wheels a week. Actually, good stick on weights usually hold BETTER thanclip ons on aluminum. The adhesive "sets" after maybe an hour or so. The spinning of the weights also helps them to stay on better. Make sure they clean the rims before putting the weights on. I usually use brake cleaner on a rag and clean the area, but no garauntees on your rim finish, although I have never had a problem.

Thanks guys! Actually did clean the wheels the last time with brake cleaner and I live about 1.5 miles from shop and rear wheel weights came off again! I don't know if there is a Discount Tire shop around here but will look.

Just take it to ANY different shop. I work for a repair place and we are also a dealer for Michelin/Uniroyal/BFG and Goodyear/dunlop as well as a few others. I know tires, and Ive balanced tons of wheels. It is entirely possible the weights they are using just got dried out or something. Dont use an adhesive on them because it will harden and when you go to get new tires and take the old weights off, your going to have a nasty blemish on the rims.

they are going to have to get them relly clean and then try using a heat gun or a lighter on the sticking part of the weight that should take care of your problem.
