A Skilled Engine Rebuilder
wow. lol i love that Pick 2 thing. Although 6000 I thought would cover somthing like that. I mean the guy that I had put in the engine when i was in Idaho was a ford guy. He built an engine for a guy with close to 500 horsepower and it costed the guy 7000 with the labor and engine swap. This guy uses high quality parts too, i mean he wouldn't let me leave his shop before adding a couple of reliable and performance parts like my Holley670 street avengercarb that i have loved the day i got it. i dont need 500 horsepower though. I was hoping for around the 400h and450t range though. Does my old engine need machine work? Im not a car expert but I don't even know whats wrong with it besides the guy that took the quick "sounds like this" diagnosis. He said it sounds like a "rispin" watever that is. Im just confused. All I know is i dont want one of those engines on ebay for 3500 that are 400h and when they tell you what parts are in them they go "its high performance" which makes you believe that they used the lowest quality sh*t they could find. I know my budget is 6000. I was hoping for 5000 but i guess not. But its gotta be able to be done for 6000. I mean thats a lot of money in my book. Although one thing i figure is that you have a 302 which means you gotta put in a bit more money to make it 400 horsepower than I do with my 351. thats one thing i noticed on ebay, the smaller the engine is the more it costs to get up into those horsepower areas.
as the saying goes there is no replacement for displacement .. you reckon right a 351 theoretically should be a greater powerhouse, the next factor to consider is the extensity of the 351 market.
Yeah, it'll take more $$to get the same power from a 302 than it would froma 351. Another thing you need to consider is the rest of the car, if you have an engine like that, can your transmission and suspension handle it?
I have a FMX automatic tranny. I have heard from a lot of people that a FMX can handle that power easy. Also my suspension is in real good shape and looks to have been replaced not too long ago. I have another question... how much does it cost to put power to both my rear wheels instead of just one? And does it make that much of a difference to make the conversion?
Traction is golden. Spend the money to get a locker/positraction, something. For street performance, I like lockers(I use Richmond's Powertrax) because they don't have clutch packs that wear out and need to be replaced, and they don't differentiate when you get on it all the way, even a posi still has uneven power distribution(but is also MUCH better than an open diff). Get something that puts power to both the wheels but is still useable in a street application, you'll be VERY glad you did. As far as cost, that depends on whether you can do it yourself or not(setting up differentials ain't easy and requires some specialized tools), but you can buy whole new 3rd members with new gears and a traction device setup and ready to bolt in and go for generally around $1,000

I have a 69 Mustang Grande Coupe and I am going to finish restoring it when I get back from my Army training. When I get back I want to have someone rebuild my 351 windsorengine. It will be my original engine, so when the engine is done I would like the person to take out my replacement engine and put back in my restored original. I have about 5,000 that im willing to spend with all the labor of getting the engine out and putting the restored one in. I would like about 400+ horsepower and maybe 450+ torque. I have a fmx trany, i know they can handle a lot of power buti dont want to over due it. I also have a Holley 670 street avenger, is that good enough for that kindof power?I want quality work and a warranty, ive been ripped off too many times. Can anyone help me here? I want a fast car so pointers can really help. Thanks guys.

465hp 500 lb torque
Would a 408 Stroker fit? I have the grande so it has power steering, air conditioning, power brakes, ect. Im not a big fan of Nitrous, does a lot of damage to the engines, or at least I've heard. Well i dont want to outright buy a 408 because I want to have the original engine back in my car. So can my 351 be made into a 408 stroker? I know they make 428 strokers that are made from a 351 but like I said im not an expert. Although I like the Idea about the 465h and the 500t that makes me more than happy. The cost is no issue and I already have a Holley 670 street avenger carb and if it only costs 5000 then ill have a little left over to pay for labor and so on.
A 408 is a stroked out 351W. 4 in stroke I believe? or 4.1. And nitrous is plenty safe if you do it right. Most people think it's bad for an engine cuz most the people they know who use it are morons that don't tune it right or spray more than the engine can handle etc.
