I had both a stick and auto GT both were 01's I had the stick for about a week and it felt a lot faster the my automatic. I've been told that it only about .02 sec faster in a 1/4 mile but it sure didn't feel like it. So i just wanted to know for sure is an stick shift faster or is it so close that i shouldn't worry about it.

ps. before everyone ask i'm crazy about sun roofs and my stick didn't have one, and if i happen to leave a party buzzed i wanna be able to make it home with out killing the trans.

well first you shouldn't drink and drive, I did it twice in my stang and it was scary, but stock for stock the 5-speed is faster.

 

how else will i get home if i don't drink and drive. just kidding! yeah i know, but.... well there is no but your right.

 

that was my problem even when I'm drunk I won't let anyone drive my car, lolzers I'm glad it's in storage. get a 5-speed if you have the chance though

 

My93 had an AOD w shift kit ran 14.40 stock, pulleys, exhaust, 3.73
changed over to stick and ran 13.90
recently built the top end no times yet track is down for winter

 

1/2 second is ridiculous.... You musta had an F'ed up AOD... Shift kit + Higher stall and you AOD or AOD-E will rape a 5-speed.

 

You motor carries more HP to the rear of the car When you use a Manual rather then using a Auto

 

welll, when i drive my bro's car (which is auto) it seems a lot slower, but when i get in my car(a manual) it seems a lot faster, o wait deeeer, hes got a v6, ok please someone hit me..............

 

stick is a bit faster but its also better if you go from a roll. On the highway an auto will be faster than a stick. you can control the RPMs as with the auto its controlled by the computer which always has it in the lowest RPM for gas reasons. I think in the quarter stock vs. stock the stick would be about 2 tenths faster. I have an auto and the best I ran stock was a 14.3 but 14.4 is where it was consistent.

 

yeah i dunno, its proven fact that to run an automatic transmission it can take away 15 rear wheel horse power. so like s281 said. the 5 spds have the autos outclassed stock for stock.
