i recently went down to mustangs unlimited in conn. the other day and the dude at the desk says that the exhaust for my 02 gt is the worst thing on the car and should be replaced with aftermarket exhaust first more than any other mod..is this true..?

They make your gears wind up quicker, which'll let your motor get into it's powerband quicker in every other gear. Granted, it'll feel like you gained power, when you really didn't.

As far as the exhaust, flowmaster did some pretty bad ripping on it on their site. It's not loading correctly right now, but I think they said it was 2" crush bent. Puky on a motor that big

thats why you have your exhaust shop bend you 2 1/2 or 3 inch pipes. your gears wont hurt you too much, i get @ 250-300 a tank, depending on my combo of city and hwy miles. with 3:73's, i coast on the hwy between 2200 and 2500 rpms, betweeon 60-75 mph.

Stay away from the 3 inch exhaust, it will actually hurt performance from what I hear on stock motors. If you have forced induction, then 3 inch is good. Exhaust was the first thing I changed out on my stang. I was definetly happy as I increased gas milage, well when I wasn't getting on it to hear the deaper, more throaty sound of the exhuast !
