No, it's not.

Backpressure is just what it sounds like, exhaust getting pegged up in the pipe and choking the motor. That's not helpful at all.

To make power on a motor, you want to get more air in and out of the motor more effeciently.

You do this by
A. increaseing the volume of air ingested
B. increasing the velocity of the gases moving in and out of the motor.

Doing one of these works ok to an extent, but you won't see nice gains untill you can do both in unison (IE, when you upgrade an intake part, upgrade your exhaust).
