Master Cylinder?
Ok, I just bought this mustang, and I knew the brakes were bad. I got the drums, shoes, and rotors. For some reason the pads weren't shipped, so I have to wait, when I took off the wheels, I found out the guy had drove until the brakes were metal to metal, so I didnt bother doing the front(discovered he took the sway bar off....I don't have it.......) And I got the back completely done. When I went to bleed them, nothig happened. I tried to just gravity bleed at first(open back bleeders, fill brake fluid until somethin came out) but nothing happened, so I tried havin my friend pump the pedal like a million times, hold it on the floor, and when i craked the bleeder, nothing..... The pedal goes down with alil resistance, and then just clunks to the floor at a certain point. I dont see any fluid leaking anywhere, so......just really hard to bleed or master cylinder?
When you crack the bleeder does air come out or is it just nothing at all? When you bleed the brakes you need todo it to all 4 tires reguardless if you cracked the lines in the front or not. Just FYI though....to change pads you dont need to open the lines....u can just pry the caliper open with a big *** screwdriver so it will go over the rotor.
If you have all your bleeders closed and the pedal goes to the floor your master cylender is bad. If you close them all and you can build pressure then its still good.

Well, the rear left wheel cylinder was busted, and there was no fluid at all when I replaced it. The master cylinder was almost completely empty. With all the bleeders closed you can pump the pedal over and over and nothing happens. It just goes to the floor. But wouldn't air in the system cause this??? The pedal comes back up, just real slowly. But it doesnt stay on the floor.
the cap shouldnt give you problems. A master cylender works like a plunger....as long as its full of fluid you should be good to go. If the cap you have leaks then you need to get it replaced.
if all the fluid leaked out of the system it will take a long time to bleed. Fill it up with fluid and keep pumping. If the cylender isnt pumping fluid then your prolly right.....it might be bad.
