RE: What is the difference between 4.6 and 5.0?
5 liters v 4.6 liters. 5 liters has the capability to make more power(basic enigine knowledge on how they work will tell you this) the 5.0 came on fox body gts and gt thru 95, then they went with 4.6L. they still have 4.6L v8 today. both are v8. main diff is the computers and all in the newer 4.6 lets out more power. 4.6L of today is apx. 260 hp.- 390 hp (the bigger number is off the supercharged cobra engine i believe) the 5.0L of late 80s thru 95 let out about 225hp or so, but more can be unlocked.

RE: What is the difference between 4.6 and 5.0?
Big difference is, the 4.6 is no longer a push rod motor. It is a SOHC or DOHC engine, (single overhead cam, double overhead cam).
There is a cam over each cylinder head, that opens and closes intake/exhaust valves. The DOHC Engine (4 valve) breathes much better and responds to mods much better than it's SOHC 2 Valve brother.
Stock for Stock, the 4.6 is much quicker than the old 5.0. The 4.6 will make more power without internal mods than a 5.0 will, it's cheaper & easier (installation wise) to modify a 5.0, but it takes much more work just to get to where the 4.6 is from the factory.
In the end, Push rod motors are cheaper, easier to modify and maintain. The SOHC/DOHC are great engines, they love to rev high and not to mention they sound downright badass when modified.
