AIR BAG DISABLE!!!!
ok i have a 1995 mustang and its ONLY for show...no passengers or any thing like that...is there ANY way to disable the air bags? or is there a fuse that goes to them? and if there is a way to disable them will the C/E light or the air bag light come on? because i need to put a PS2 in the dashboard on the passenger side...so i need the air bag out...any help would be great!!
Thanks, Diego
your best bet is to talk to one of the technicians at your local Ford dealer and see what he can tell you about this. I don't think the dealer can disable them but you might be able to swing a deal where they could remove it and get to keep it as they are rather expensive as replacement parts when repairing wrecked Stangs. it sure can't hurt to ask anyway.
If you leave your battery unscrewed for more then 2 minutes the air bags sensors will stop working then you can go through and unplug your airbags. I did a complete airbag swap out before and they just plug in electronically. If you do unplug them though note you will have the air bag light go on. And if you dont want that to happen and your car is only for show then just unplug the airb bag light. if you need some help i will scan the Ford Motor Company Mustang manual and send for the pics on how to disable bags.
Ok. Im a FORD tech. You CANT disable them and keep everything normal. how ever here is what you can do!... Unplug youre battery, like PIPS said, you have to leave them off for i always choose 10 minutes. Then you can go ahead and remove the bolts on the back of the steering column and take the face pad off. Unplug it ( becareful though please. Because they CAN go off without notice.)
Then rip off the plastic cover that says "Mustang SRS" on the pass side and remove the same.
Then remove youre gauge cluster, just remove the torques and remove it. Then (before you do all this, remember where the light for the Air bag is) remove the bulb for the air bag.
Put everything back together and you'll be all set.
good luck!
