Default 94' 5.0 Engine Rebuild Questions

I'm looking at having my 5.0 rebuilt from my 94' GT. I was hoping that I could get some insight as to what would be the best way to go. What kind of work is usually done in a rebuild. Replaced pistons, boring the cylinders, replacing the valves? Also, what kind of cost would I be looking at if I had this work done at a shop vs. doing it myself? Any suggestions would be great...I need to learn as much as I can about the process.

As long as you have good shop prep the block and do the heads, its kinda like putting a model together. Just label every nut and bolt you take off. Sure feels bad when you get it back together and you have a handful of "spare" parts. If you are just going stock rebuild, its just a matter of replacing all the gaskets, rings, and bearings. Do some research before you decide to tackle it yourself. There are some good books and videos on rebuilding your engine out there.

its is an easy job IF you have the tools to do it. tools most dont have that youll need will be a good ring compressor good meaning not the junk from a parts store, telescoping gauges and some micrometers to measure up the cylinders, rod and main journals. these tools will not be needed if you just have the machine shop measure and assemble the motor. you will need a power steering pully remover and installer due to the position of the bolt behind the pulley that holds the accesory bracket on. youll need the spring lock tools to remove the fuel lines, go with the brand Lisle on these theyre sold at most parts stores they come as a set theyre cheap and seem to work better than my snap on set. good luck and any questions just ask

The biggest downside is that I don't have the tools for the job. In addition I work 6 days a week and it is very difficult to do all the necessary work in a reasonable time frame. Anybody have an idea as to how much I would be looking at paying if I took the car to the shop to have the work done? The reasoning behind the rebuild is that the vehicle has about 115,000 miles on it. Overall it is in pretty good condition...the interior is perfect and the body is in great shape also. The way I figure, it would extend the life of the vehicle and improve engine performance in the process.
