Just wondering how many of you folks out there still change oil at 3k? I know I don't - around 5k for me. Used to go 7k when I ran synthetic.

Oil companies want you to think that its best to change oil at 3k for long life, when in fact since the oils and engines of today are much better designed most manufacturers recommend 5-7k intervals - some even 12k oil changes with synthetic.

What do you do, and what do you think?

 

I usually let it go to about 4-5K...but i took the long trip down to MS and i haven't changed it since i've been back.....So i'm definetly due.....I will be changing that sucker as soon as the weather gets better...Way to much snow here at the moment..

 

holy shizz! I'm obviously doing my best to keep the oil companies in biznass!!! 2,500 miles ever since I can remember on every vehicle I own. Funny, I've never blown anything up either

Well i changed it on the day i left...But you have to think....3,000 miles there....Then i drove around...Raced a few of my friends....Then drove it back to Seattle....So i definetly need to change my oil....On the plus side...I haven't moved it since i've been back home..lol

 

i guess i'm different md. i check my oil once a week,and when i see that it's black i change it.
i run synth too it depends on how hard i run it.....i usually get over 5k out of it though.

 

On my acura ( my every dayer) i change it every 2500-3000 miles because i run regular conventional oil. the reason i change my oil so much is because not only is Oil is supposed to lubricate, but is there to clean as well. Clean oil = clean engine. I'm not firmilular with sythetic yet but i just put it in my saleen and ill see how it looks.

Also they say to change oil every 3000 mile or 3 months. The 3 months is because once gas is mixed with the oil ( in the cumbustion chamber ) its no good for the oil. Thats why it is better to change the oil when winterizing/ puttig the car a way for the winter.

Everyone has there own beliefs....

Man, i dont even put 5000 miles a year on my car and i change the oil maybe 2 or 3 times a year

 

ahh.. its ok i can take it. I am suprised i didnt get more of it yet. lol

 

Don't put that many miles on mine either but I change it around 3k usually alittle under running fully synthetic.
