Early Fox Bodied Brake Question
Read the early (believe 79-81) Mustang/Capris used rear aluminum brake drums. Were these any good, and if so, are they hard to find and can they be relined? Have a 83 race car and looking for ways to keep brakes cooler. Wondered if these would work on my car and if they are worth it.
I'm sure the aluminum would disipate heat better but there probably a reason why they dont use them any more. Why not switch to disc.
Does anyone know if a 94 and up rear line up ok in a fox body stang?
I am almost positive that it will line up but what about the axles. would i need a different offset rim for the same tire clearence or are they the exactly the same. If the newer rears wider? This is what i am trying to figure out for another upgrade.

Dont know what race class you are but if its SCCA you probably going SP. If it is you can update/backdate so a set of non aluminium is legal. You just have to get the correct part from a newer model
Pipeliner- I have an 83 Capri and run in the ITB class. Already have steel drums, but was wondering if the aluminum ones were any good since I'd think they's be better for cooling and I'd like to give them a try.
Only other thing I would worry about is the chance of warping them. The hard constant braking may be to much for them to take of the corse of a race. It never hurts to try thou. If after the race you start feeling it in the brake pedal I guess its back to finding a way to use steel
