Default changing shifter

How easy/hard is this for a beginner. i am buying a short shifter and im unsure whether to do it myself or pay to get it done. I have basic knoledge of working on cars but am by no means a mechanic.

takes at the very most 10 min. Just unscrew the shifter **** then pull up on the boot, it just clips on. After that you have access to the shifter. There should be 4-6 bolts that you can see holding the shifter on just take them out and pull the shifter out. Putsome newsillicone where the shifter meets the trans( you will see where the silicone was when you pull the old one off). Bolt the new shifter down, snap the boot back on and screw the **** on and your done

Actually, it depends on what year car you have. Fox body is easy, newer stangs are more involved.

Its not a big deal, just follow the directions, and post up questions if you get stuck. What brand is it?

With the 83, it's probably easier to pull the console loose. Makes it easier to get to the bolts holding the boot in. Dont forget the screws under the ash tray. Pretty easy really, make sure to set the shifter stops too.
