the only possible way to lose 1/4 mile time with gears is no traction.. as long as you get decent tracion you can lose almost a half second. dependsing on your mods etc. but no you shouldnt try to install them yourself, installation is a bit expensive but worth it, wouldnt want windy gears (trust me i have them)

decrease.... you wanna DECREASE your 1/4 mile time!
Yes guys, i want to decrease my 1/4 mile time. 14 secs to 13 secs would be a good start. If gears would drop me .5 secs than it sounds like a good mod.

If you're so worried about gas mileage, why did you get a timing adjuster that made you run premium fuel?

I LOVE PREMIUM!!! [8D]The added mpg make up for the cost of premium fuel a bit. I don't really care about fuel mileage. I plan on getting 4.10's myself. Some people are picky about gas prices. It only costs 3 dollars more a tank to fill up with premium. All I'm trying to say hear is some people don't have alot of money to spend on gas. Back in the day I was one of those people so I understand there situation.

Gears are great. I got 3:91s in my '04 and my gas mileage didn't change at all. I still get 17mpg out of my auto gt. I have an '05 on order and it is getting 4:10s right after I get it. The gears are the biggest thing I noticed on my car. If my '04 could have gotten traction it would have run about a 13.6 maybe even better which is damn good for a 4 spd. auto.

If you are going to drag your car all the time, 4.10's are fine. For more of a daily driver, 3.73's are better. I know some who even opted for 3.55's for road or rally racing. One thing you definitely have to do regardless of what gears you choose is recalibrate your speedometer. '98 and before is a matter of a 23 tooth gear but '99 and above are electronic and need to be electronically recalibrated. Otherwise you will be reading 80 mph when you are only going 50! Keep in mind 4.10's are a lot of gear if you aren't used to that much kick in the *** all at once. Also don't forget that when you are constantly twisting your engine to high rpm's all the time, which 4.10's will definitely do, something can and eventually will go snap, crackle or pop! Just a fact of life. Click on this link and then hit "This must have hurt a little" http://64.177.72.121/forums/showthread.php?t=10010

Whatever your decision, enjoy your new ride. Gears are a blast for sure. Oh ya, don't screw around with any new gears except Ford Racing....the best!
