Gears

RE: Gears
At first I was leaning towards getting 4.10s put in, but after hearing some guys talk about them I'm probably gonna go with 3.73s. From what I've heard 4.10s will just make you spin your tires if you don't have good traction. I've got performance tires but I don't wanna get burned in a race off the line cause I didn't go with 3.73s.

question, I am going to be changing the gears in my car 36,000 miles on it, should i replace the bearings when i do the gears or just re-use the stock ones on the car?

RE: Gears
I got a quote from a decent shop today , but i have a feeling it was too high,
He said about 200 for install, thats labor, and the sort,
100 for new bearings, or rings or somthing, [sm=smiley13.gif]
then like my 200 ish for gears and like, whatever 10 bucks for some bottle of something,
thats like, around 500,, is that accurate or high?
and waht are the bearing, rings, and wahtever,, especially since my car has just over 50K
im not mechanical, but i would like to know what is going on...
He also said that i should expect a whine from the rear end, nothing major, just more than i have with my stock 2.73's.... anyone know whats up?
thanks

naturally aspirated: 4.10s or 4.30s
power adder: 3.73s or 3.90s - with 4.10s you could run out of 4th and shift to 5th costs time.

RE: Gears
Well damnit all, now i can't decide on 3.73s or 4.10s after reading this lol. oh and hows this affect your warranty, is a kinda like a "if a problem happens and has to do with the gears you pay for it" kind of thing? I figure it is because thats how they were with my last car. Also, 3.73s or 4.10s on an 05 GT, what do u all think?

RE: Gears
Honestly man, I don't know about the 05. Haven't done enough research on them yet to tell you that. They may have a differen't transmission ratio, but I still think you would be ok with 4.10's. I'm sure that somebody with a little more knowledge on them will chime in here in a bit.
On the warranty part, I had my gears installed at the dealership. (It's good to know people) On the ticket it says that the tech was checking out a leak.
O and BTW. GO 4.10's
