Default Chrome 17" Wheels Flaking?

If you look at the wheels in the photo album on allblack's ride...I have those wheels which came on my 2001 GT....at under 60k on all four, the chrome is chipping/flaking...Does anyone else have this problem..

It happens with chrome. Certainly not quickly, but since chrome is just a layering ontop of the base metal (which can add over 5 pounds per rim).

A alternative is highly polished aluminum rims, like those found on new Z06's. Never have to worry about a layer chipping off because there isn't one to chip off.

Best part about aluminum, get 4-5 years of abuse on them..they can always be polished by a shop and look brand new again.
