per the NHRA 2005 rule book, "driveshaft loop required on all cars running 13.99 (*8.59 in 1/8) or quicker utilizing slicks; except vehicles running 11.49 (*7.35) seconds or slower equipped with street tires. the rule is the same for the IHRA tracks. but the local track can make their own rules too, so you need to check with their tech guys to be sure what they will demand you have.
personally I think any car on the strip running in the 12's no matter what the tires should use a driveline loop just for the extra margin of safety it provides.

Well...looks like I can add a drive shaft loop to my list when I buy my slicks.

If you are going to running at the track the safty loop is one of the best safty devices you can have even if you run 14's. Just imagine going throught the traps with a slow car around 80+ mph and then BOMB ...you are looking at the concret.

Nothing like doing the pole vault over the finish line J/K Point well taken though.
